I did my project 9 on an augmented reality application and thought it would be cool to discuss augmented reality on here. Wikipedia defines augmented reality as "live direct or indirect view of a physical real-world environment whose elements are merged with virtual computer-generated imagery - creating a mixed reality." Sounds really cool doesn't it? You can use a computer or even a mobile device with a camera or GPS to view computer graphic elements superimposed with real life! There are a lot of potential applications for it. The example I used in my project would be for gaming, but it also has more "practical" applications like assisting in repair. Using augmented reality you could tell what part is what and how it works.
It can also work in the medical field so you could see the inner anatomy on top of the real live person like this.Augmented reality isn't exactly new, but recently, with mobile devices with larger displays and cameras, it has picked up a lot. I'm really interested in seeing what kinds of new things emerge from this technology.
(another great example of augmented reality is watching football on tv. The yellow "first down" line and ads around the stadium are put in by a computer!)
